Importance of Online reputation
Building a positive image for your brand or company takes a
lot of time and effort. Any negative comments about you or your company can
easily make their way to the internet where anyone can see it and could really
hurt the image that you worked so hard for. That being said, one should really
make it a priority to manage their online reputation.
If you don’t have power over your image online, then someone
will create it for you. Whether you are looking for a new job or selling
products and services, people will most likely look you up on the internet
before making any decisions. People will probably base their decisions of what
they find in the first page of Google,
Bing or any other big search engine. Search
engines don’t filter out negative comments, information that may be inaccurate,
or flat out lies. Any bad publicity can easily make it to that first page on a
search engine if you are not proactive in taking care of your online image. This
is why online reputation management is so important.
When forming an online marketing strategy it is crucial to
include a plan to protect your company from bad publicity on the internet. By
not taking ownership of your reputation online, you are leaving yourself exposed
for someone to do it for you.
